**USGS Reports Largest Earthquake in Eastern United States** The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported that the largest earthquake to hit the East Coast in recent history occurred 45 years ago in the East Coast region. However, the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the United States occurred in Lincoln, Montana, with a magnitude of 7.3. The third most powerful earthquake in the US took place in Homer, Alaska, with a magnitude of 7.0. The USGS also noted that there have been 40 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or greater in the past day, including one severe earthquake that occurred in the eastern US in November 1755, with an estimated magnitude of 6.0. Twelve years ago, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 struck the East Coast region, the largest quake in that area in recent history.
