Tottenham thrash Aston Villa to close in on fourth

Son Heung-Min's brace helps Spurs to a 3-0 victory

A punishing defeat for Villa as the fight for fourth intensifies

Tottenham Hotspur moved within two points of fourth place in the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Monday night.

Son Heung-Min scored twice for Spurs, with Dejan Kulusevski also on target. The win was Tottenham's seventh-straight success at Villa Park, and they have now won 14 of the past 18 Premier League meetings between the sides.

Villa, meanwhile, have now lost their last four Premier League games and are in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle.

The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at Villa Park, and the home fans were in good voice throughout. However, it was Tottenham who took the lead in the 15th minute when Son Heung-Min fired home from close range.

Spurs doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Kulusevski slotted home from Son's pass. And Son then made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute with a stunning strike from outside the box.

Villa had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The win was a big boost for Tottenham's hopes of finishing in the top four. They are now just two points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United, and they have a game in hand.

For Villa, the defeat was a major setback. They are now just three points above the relegation zone, and they have a difficult run of fixtures coming up.
